Day 2

For those who looked it up, you may realize that Grand Island, NE is close to Hastings, NE which everyone knows is the place where kool-aid was invented. So we decided to go there to find the footprints of kool-aid man which turned out to be a bit more difficult than we had thought it would be. Every road leading to the prints was closed because of construction. We ended up parking and walking to get to them.
I then drove through Nebraska while David slept. He woke up for Eastern Colorado, but probably should have stayed asleep it was the most boring part of the whole drive. In Denver, we went in search of the giant broom and dust pan and stumbled across the giant chair with the horse on top also. In case you hadn't realized, the part of the trip that I planned involves seeing lots of giant things because after all I am a giant and it is nice to find things that are my size. We determined that Denver is still on the list of places that we would consider moving to. I think David quite likes the idea of waking up and looking outside and seeing mountains.

After we left Denver, we headed down 285 so that we could go to the Coney Island Hot Dog Diner. We waited in line for about 45 minutes to get hot dogs. David got a southwestern style hot dog.
After leaving the diner, we continued on 285, and unfortunately got in stuck in traffic once again because of an accident. This time it was about 50 cars in front of us. We think that it was a sports car trying to pass someone on the two lane road. In the overview picture you can see the cars wrapping around. They were backed up for 4.5 miles. We were there for over an hour. Some people were walking around, others thought it was an oppurtunity to skateboard down a mountain. We did crossword puzzles and played Phase 10 while eating oreos. The zoomed in picture shows the helicopter landing. the mountain picture is just there to give you an idea of what we were looking at for over an hour.

Unfortunately, for most of the rest of the trip it was dark so we missed out on all of the natural beauty of western Colorado, but we did feel like we were surrounded. On the way to Moab, we stopped off in Fruita, CO where David provided Mike the headless chicken with a head. We realize that Mike is a male and is really a rooster, but they call him a chicken. The other picture is just me with a dinosaur that was in the town.

So over all we determined that if you travel with us you should travel behind us in order to avoid getting into an accident. Also, Colorado construction companies are very friendly and always post a thank you sign after you leave their construction zone.

I did not know that kool-aid was invented in Hastings, NE.

I must ask, how did you go about planning the trip so that you found all these 'Julie'-sized objects?

If you move to Denver we can visit you, well maybe once every two years, and as a stopping place to visit other places...

I found all of those places on www.roadsideamerica.com . We wanted some weird places to go to and you can look up by state on that website and also find them on a map, which was convenient. Unfortunately on the trip back we had to skip some of the planned stops such as the giant fork in springfield, MO because of the rain. Oh well, something we can do on another trip.
