Further exacerbating our woes is the fact that we didn't want to go with old familiar standbys like scalloped potatoes with ham or pasta florentine with ham and we had already made hamballs. So, Julie went to the internet and found two things to make. First, a corn chowder with ham to stick in the freezer, and secondly a recipe for spaetzle which reminded us that it would be fun to make some spaetzle, toss it with ham and asparagus, and call it a meal - so that's just what we did. Here are some pictures of our food along with pictures of me cutting the spaetzle into the boiling water.

Leftover ham
Hams usually weigh at least 8 pounds, so when you make a ham, you're going to have a lot of leftovers. Also, it doesn't last a long time in the freezer, so you have to use it quickly. If you have bread in the house, you can just go to the grocery store and buy some swiss cheese, and then life is good with ham and swiss sandwiches. But if you don't have bread in the house, you need to think of a lot of things to do with ham in a small period of time. This was the dilemma in which Julie and I found ourselves today.
